A Day in the Life at KAJ: Night Auditor

Stories | Hospitality

Hotels are not a basic 9-to-5 job. There are many roles and team members who comprise a property’s operation that work together each hour of the day to ensure the guest experience is one of comfort, safety, and accommodation. Have you ever wondered who keeps the lights on long after you’ve turned in for the night when you stay at a hotel?

Meet Kristen Zon, KAJ’s Night Auditor at Homewood Suites in West Fargo who keeps the lights on for our guests until they awake each morning.

What Does a Night Auditor in a Hotel Do?

Within KAJ’s properties, our Night Auditors work at the front desk overnight. Since overnights are usually quiet in hotels, there are more tasks and responsibilities the Night Auditor fulfills than guest check-in. Typical duties are split between financial and occupancy-related tasks. They perform a variety of accounting-related tasks, including ensuring all bills have been paid and/or reconciled and creating daily and weekly revenue reports, which are presented to managers and directors as necessary.

Other Night Auditor responsibilities are creating and maintaining occupancy manifests for accuracy and distributing the guest-related information to other departments that need the information, such as housekeeping, dining services, event and sales staff, and maintenance.

“As a Night Auditor for KAJ, I truly like that during the later hours, I get more of a one-on-one conversation with the guests.” —Kristen Zon
